Join the Migration Museum at the Albany in Deptford, with a pop-up stall as part of a free event celebrating the Borough of Sanctuary, led by Lewisham Council. The day will bring together organisations across the borough working to support, champion and empower refugees and sanctuary seekers for a day of family fun, music, poetry and more.
Enjoy performances by artists with lived experience, art installations, children’s activities, and stands from Lewisham services and partner organisations, including the Migration Museum! This event will also be an opportunity to meet the new Mayor, Brenda Dacres. Food will be available from Plateful Cafe. Other local organisations taking part in the day include AFRIL, Facework, Deptford Islamic Centre, New Arrivals Support, Spontaneous Productions.
At our stall, visitors will have the chance to share their migration stories and add them to our Story Disc Archive, celebrating everyday migration! You’ll also learn about our exciting projects and share your vision for a Lewisham Legacy as we prepare to move to our new home in 2027.
Refugee Week 2024 at the Migration Museum
This event is part of the Migration Museum’s activities for Refugee Week 2024 (17-23 June).
We have developed an exhibition guide highlighting stories from our current exhibition, Heart of the Nation: Migration and the Making of the NHS, of healthcare workers who migrated to Britain as refugees. Visit us in Lewisham to pick up a trail and discover more.
Additionally, our Migrant Makers Market proudly hosts a range of products made by refugee-led businesses, alongside a selection of books for readers of all ages exploring themes of migration and displacement. These items will be featured in a special Refugee Week book display.
Our community notice board will highlight the work and services available locally and regionally to support sanctuary seekers in areas including housing, legal advice, and leisure activities. Feel free to drop by to find out about ongoing work, find support you may need, or ways that you can help out and provide support to others.
Finally, on Friday 21 June, we will be hosting the Sounds Like Home Choir, an international women’s choir, for a special free Refugee Week performance sharing songs from the places we call home. Find out more here.
The Migration Museum is proud to take part in this event and to be a part of the Museums of Sanctuary. Read more about our Museum of Sanctuary status here.
