The more I’ve thought about it, the more it seems astonishing to me that Britain does not have a national Migration Museum. Our history is bound up with migration, and our society made strong by its diversity. We sorely need a place to reflect this.

Reeta Chakrabarti is a BBC news presenter and correspondent. She presents the One, Six and Ten O’Clock News on BBC1, and also presents regularly on the BBC News Channel, as well as reporting from home and abroad. She has previously held several senior reporting roles within the BBC, including Education Correspondent, and Community Affairs Correspondent, and spent years reporting politics from Westminster.
