This area was known as ‘Little Italy’ because of the large Italian community in the area surrounding the Catholic Saint Peters Church in Clerkenwell Road.

This image shows my grandmother. She came from Pakistan in 1968. Some of the possessions she brought with her included the cup and saucer she is holding. They were part of a crockery set, bought by my great great grandfather from China during his travels when he was with the British Army. She got this as part of a larger dowry, as a status symbol, when she married in 1949. It showed she was from a wealthy family because her dowry included items and objects from different parts of the world.
