Cookies

Our website uses cookies. This policy explains what cookies are, how we use them and how you can manage them.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. These files enable websites to ‘remember’ you, and how you’ve used the site and are widely used to make websites work more efficiently.

Cookies themselves don’t hold personal information, but they are unique to you. In many cases, we would not be able to link the information we collect by using a cookie back to you as an individual.

The cookies we use fall into three main categories:

  1. Strictly necessary – these help make our website work efficiently, and enhance its look and feel. This type of cookie only lasts for the duration of the time you are visiting the website. When you leave our website, they are deleted automatically.
  2. Performance and analysis – we use cookies to collect and report on aggregated anonymous information about how visitors use our website. We use this aggregated anonymous information to analyse and improve our website.
  3. Targeting/advertisingthese cookies may be set through our site by our advertising partners. They may be used by those companies to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant adverts on other sites. They do not store directly personal information, but are based on uniquely identifying your browser and internet device. If you do not allow these cookies, you will experience less targeted advertising.

Google Analytics and third-party cookies

One of the key performance cookies we use is Google Analytics. Google Analytics cookies don’t collect any personally identifiable information and any data is held pseudonymously.

During your visit to the Migration Museum website, you may also be delivered cookies by third-party websites. If you visit a page with content embedded from a third-party site such as Meta, SoundCloud, Vimeo, X, YouTube or Google Maps, you may be presented with cookies from these websites. The Migration Museum does not control the dissemination of these cookies. Therefore, you should check the third-party websites for more information about these (see links above).
