Thank you, Lewisham

Sunday 30 March 2025 was our final day in Lewisham Shopping Centre, our temporary home since the start of 2020. We are so grateful to have been part of this incredible community for the past five years.

We’ve welcomed over 200,000 of you over that time – and in the past month alone seen almost 5,000 visitors, hosted 11 school, college and university visits, and staged 4 buzzing events:

– From an insightful panel discussion on our community-curated exhibition Inside/Outside and All In Between featuring our community curators and contributing artists Kadir Karababa, Angelina Duke Alexander, Yang-En Hume, Oumou Longley and Tova McKenzie-Bassant…

– to a Museum Late with a drop-in print making workshop with artist Kim Chin, guided tours, a pop-up bar hosted by Rumblin and plant powered goodness from En Root!

– During our closing event, Edison Huynh, Lewisham Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, spoke from the heart about how much it’s meant for the Migration Museum to be based in Lewisham. The brilliant Karen Arthur captivated the crowd, and our Artistic Director Aditi Anand shared reflections on our journey, celebrating our community, and looking ahead to the future.

– And finally, we wrapped up with a celebration of our incredible Lewisham community, welcoming over 800 of you to take part in creative workshops led by Tia Guttensohn, Neysela Da Silva-Reed, Chery Nguyen and Jess Nash, and a spectacular performance by the Talentos Dance School.

As well as these more public moments, we’ve also shared some deeply personal ones. We reconnected with our friends at the Diamond Club, welcomed back students from Lewisham College to explore our exhibitions for one last time – and even received a card and flowers from a regular visitor.

We are immensely grateful to Landsec for generously enabling us to host our museum in such a brilliant venue in the heart of Lewisham for the past five years.

And a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has visited, contributed and supported us over the past five years. We couldn’t have done it without you – and we hope you’ll come with us on the next stage of our journey.
